Slash Government Waste

$90 Billion in Annual Savings Through Fiscal Responsibility

Executive Summary

One Nation is committed to eliminating wasteful government spending and implementing significant budget savings of up to $90 billion per year. These savings will be achieved through targeted reforms, streamlined operations, and the elimination of inefficient bureaucracies that burden Australian taxpayers. Our plan redirects funds where they are most needed—reducing federal debt and investing in nation-building infrastructure.

Key Savings Targets

  1. Abolish the Department of Climate Change and related agencies, saving approximately $30 billion per year
  2. Reform the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) to its original purpose with means-testing and sustainable pay rates
  3. Withdraw from costly international agreements including the UN, WHO, and Paris Agreement, saving $1 billion annually
  4. Reduce foreign aid spending by up to $3 billion per year while maintaining essential humanitarian commitments
  5. End the natural gas royalty rort by levying at point of production, raising $13 billion per year
  6. Redirect savings toward reducing federal debt and investing in critical infrastructure like dams, railways, and ports

Eliminating Wasteful Departments

The Department of Climate Change and related climate agencies represent one of the largest sources of wasteful government spending. These organizations pursue ideological goals that harm Australian industry, kill jobs, and drive up energy costs while providing no measurable benefit to the environment or climate.

By abolishing these departments and their associated programs, we will save approximately $30 billion per year. This includes eliminating climate change research and advocacy programs, renewable energy subsidies and mandates, carbon credit schemes and offsets, and international climate commitments and payments.

Similarly, the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) has become a bloated bureaucracy that funnels billions through intermediaries rather than directly helping Indigenous Australians in need. By providing direct grant assistance and bypassing the Aboriginal industry, we can save up to $12.5 billion annually while better serving those who truly need help.

NDIS Reform

The National Disability Insurance Scheme was created with noble intentions—to provide reasonable and necessary support for Australians with genuine disabilities. However, the scheme has ballooned beyond recognition, with costs spiraling out of control due to lack of oversight, fraud, and overpayment for services.

One Nation will return the NDIS to its original purpose by introducing means-testing to ensure support goes to those who truly need it, adjusting specialist and non-specialist pay rates to sustainable, market-based levels, cracking down on fraudulent claims and service providers exploiting the system, and ensuring support is “reasonable and necessary” as originally intended.

International Agreements & Foreign Aid

Australia’s membership in various international organizations and our commitments under global agreements cost taxpayers billions of dollars each year while undermining our national sovereignty. These organizations often work against Australian interests and impose costly obligations that provide little to no benefit to everyday Australians.

One Nation will withdraw from the United Nations and its various agencies, the World Health Organization, the Paris Agreement on climate change, and other international bodies that compromise Australian sovereignty. This will save up to $1 billion per year in membership fees, contributions, and associated costs. Additionally, we will reduce foreign aid spending by up to $3 billion annually while maintaining essential humanitarian commitments to our Pacific neighbors and genuine disaster relief.

End the Gas Rort

Australia possesses some of the world’s largest natural gas reserves, yet Australians pay some of the highest gas prices globally. This is because multinational corporations extract our gas, pay minimal royalties, and export it overseas while Australian families and businesses struggle with high energy costs.

One Nation will end this rort by levying royalties at the point of production, not at artificially low prices, creating a domestic gas reserve to ensure Australian supply, raising up to $13 billion per year in additional royalty revenue, and ensuring Australians benefit from our own natural resources. This policy will simultaneously lower domestic energy costs and increase government revenue—a win-win for Australia.

Debt Reduction & Infrastructure Investment

Federal debt has reached dangerous levels, with interest costs expected to hit $50 billion annually by 2026-27. This is money wasted on interest payments that could be invested in Australia’s future.

One Nation will use savings from wasteful spending to reduce federal debt and lower future interest obligations, invest in nation-building infrastructure projects, fund new dams for water security and hydroelectric power, upgrade railways and ports to support economic growth, and create jobs through productive infrastructure investment. Unlike wasteful climate programs or bloated bureaucracies, infrastructure investment creates lasting value, generates economic activity, and benefits all Australians for generations to come.
